MEMORIAL PARK IN SLAVONSKI BROD

The park is dedicated to the children. Both lively and memorial at the same time, with the metaphor of absence and interrupted childhood. The central point of the park and its most vivid part is the children’s playground. From this vital, green circle, a smaller circle is cut out and there remains an empty concrete void as an unobtrusive reminder that something is missing. This missing grass circle is relocated to the paved part of the park along the promenade and becomes a pedestal for a memorial sculpture – the swing. The swing, stopped, frozen in the motion and time – empty, left in the swing, carries within itself the memory that no longer exists.
Two circles as two focal points, one dedicated to the children and play, and the other is the reminiscence of that same game.
